"Made from stardust . . .
the solar system and us!"
Dear Teachers,
If you want to turn your students on about the solar system -- tell them about how the solar system formed out of the dust of an ancient star that no longer lives, and that the very calcium in their bones was made inside a star. Tell them a story about how they are made out of stardust! Students of all learning styles will be engaged and excited to learn more about the solar system. Knowing where the solar system comes from gives students the best introduction to the study of astronomy and space, earth science, life science, chemistry, and environmental science, giving them a context for studying all fields of science and relating them to each other. A free downloadable lesson plan for grades 2 - 5 is available below. The first 45 minute lesson is the a well tested program I've given in schools all over the U.S. when I do author visits. The second 45 minute lesson was developed with input from teachers at the Princeton Montessori School. I'd love your advice about how to improve both lessons and ideas for additional lessons so please give them a try and get back to me with your suggestions.
Enjoy!!
